Don’t Get Flushed by Plumbing Problems

There are several plumbing problems that the do-it-yourselfer can fix with little effort and a lot less money than calling a plumber. Remember the DIY motto is to only call for professional help when absolutely necessary. Now there is nothing wrong with hiring a professional because we cannot possibly do every project ourselves but there are many projects that we can do.

Some common plumbing problems include problems with the hot water, problems with the toilet, and problems with drainage in the sink of tubs. With hot water sometimes you may find that there is not enough hot water. This is especially true for larger families. A common cause for this may be that the thermostat on the water heater may be set too low. A fix for this is to adjust the water heater thermostat upwards. This will allow less hot water to be used to still get the temperature that everyone wants.

A common toilet problem is when the toilet does not flush completely. This of course is evidenced by remnants remaining in the bowl after the toilet is flushed. The most common cause is that the ball in the tank is not being lifted high enough. The solution is to adjust the lift mechanism so that it lifts the ball higher in the tank.

A common sink drainage problem is the grease clog. In the case of clogs, the best thing to do is to try to prevent them in the first place. A good way to prevent grease clogs is to pour about a half gallon of boiling water down the drain every other day. However if you already have a grease clog, try pouring some hot vinegar down the drain and letting is set for about 20 minutes and then follow it with boiling water after the 20 minute vinegar soak.

Plumbing problems are one of the top reasons that professional help is sought. However, many of the plumbing problems that you will face can be solved as a DIY project. So make sure that you determine that you are not equipped to solve the problem before you call the plumber.

O’Reilly: Drug-Addicted Homeless Vets “Don’t Want to Be Rehabbed”

This clip is from Jan. 23, but I haven’t been able to get to it until now. But it has some very interesting moments that expose Bill O’Reilly’s tactics, as well as his true feelings about homeless vets.BOR continues his lie that John Edwards blamed homelessness among veterans on corporations and the economy — but watch the “proof” he uses. Around :30 seconds in, BOR shows a clip of Edwards talking about Exxon Mobil’s record profits and how America’s top 1% is getting wealthier and wealthier as the rest of America struggles. Both are true — Exxon Mobil posted its biggest profit ever and the gap has increased viagra www de greatly between the rich and the middle class/poor under the Bush administration. But after Edwards’ statement about Exxon/Mobil, you’ll see something interesting: an editing transition known as a “wipe”, then Edwards talking about homeless veterans. This is the “proof” BOR is providing to his viewers that Edwards is linking the two.To run from his earlier claims that there are no/not many homeless vets, BOR has been saying that he’s REALLY attacking Edwards’ dishonest “demagogueing” of the link between the economy/corporate profits and homeless vets. However, I have never seen nor heard of a clip or quote where Edwards does this. To my knowledge, BOR has never shown a clip or quoted any publication where Edwards has linked homeless vets and the economy/corporations. If Edwards was constantly “demagogueing” this point as much as BOR claims he was, I’m sure such a clip or quote would exist. If BOR had either of these, I’m sure he would show them endlessly. But he hasn’t. Instead, he has to rely on an edited clip to “prove” that Edwards linked them. I know a thing or two about editing video, and BOR’s clip doesn’t fool me for a second.

With an edit, you can make it seem like anyone said anything. I also know that you can use edits while completely preserving the essence of what someone says. This looks like a case of the former, since Edwards’ first comment about Exxon/Mobil does not appear at all to be leading into his next statement about homeless vets. So it seems that BOR’s whole claim about Edwards linking the two is just a huge lie. And what’s amazing is how so many people believe it despite a complete lack of proof. If anyone has seen a clip or read an article where Edwards makes this link, let me know, because BOR has certainly never shown one that I know of. Until then, I’m very comfortable saying that BOR is just lying to his viewers again, misdirecting them with one lie to avoid apologizing for another one. This is a technique he’s used before, and it seems he has plenty of viewers who are dumb enough to keep believing it. BOR goes on to prove how utterly clueless about the issue of homeless vets. He claims that the Veterans Administration has plenty of beds for every homeless veteran and that $37 billion is allocated to helping homeless vets. But in a discussion with conservative idiot Carrie Lukas and FOX contributor Col. (ret.) David Hunt, BOR’s stupidity is exposed by Hunt, who BOR expected to be a willing ally. Hunt explains that the VA doesn’t actually run homeless shelters, and the $37 billion is the medical budget for the VA, not the budget to help homeless vets. BOR lies again about Edwards, claiming Edwards said there are “Hoovervilles” full of homeless vets who are incapable of finding jobs. Anyone see the clip of Edwards saying that? BOR then returns to his claim that homeless vets are all mentally ill drug addicts, and makes the stunning statement that homeless vets suffering from addiction “don’t want to be rehabbed”, essentially saying that homeless vets are homeless and addicted by choice. He goes on to say that providing help to addicted homeless vets “isn’t about owing anybody anything.”I think this illustrates BOR’s (and republicans’) true feelings about the homeless, whether they’re veterans or not. BOR is simply incapable or unwilling to put himself in anyone else’s shoes and they might face obstacles that BOR has not. BOR has a job, a home, and isn’t a drug addict, so anyone who is homeless, jobless, or addicted CHOSE to be that way and, therefore, doesn’t deserve any help or sympathy. After all, they WANT to be that way. BOR has never served in the military, yet he is convinced that their lives and struggles are no different than his. When the Wii first hit shelves in November of 2006, everyone was excited about the door of motion control that had just been opened. According to the commercials we saw leading up to that holiday season, the possibilities seemed endless.Now, we’re a year and half in and it seems that aside from Nintendo, developers seemed to have been more interested in wedging in motion-controlled moments to otherwise conventional videogames rather than trying to get the heart of what the Wii can actually do.Well, that’s why WiiWare is here, and that’s what’s got Adam excited in this week’s Sessler’s Soapbox. The other day I was sitting in a faculty meeting, trying not to doze off during some committee reports. As I looked around, I mused over how much each of my colleagues understands buy acomplia side effects about his or her discipline. It occurred to me that if there was a single mind that possessed all of the knowledge in that room, its intelligence would be surpassed in human history. I also considered how easy it would be to trust such a person if he or she were to counsel me on some matter. From there I extrapolated: What if that person had all of the combined knowledge of everyone in Indiana? In the United States? Of the entire world population? Even if God had merely the sum of all human understanding, he should be easy to trust. Yet his wisdom and knowledge infinitely exceed the best human comprehension. Still we struggle to trust him. Faith is essentially the practice of trust. And our routine failure to properly trust an infinitely wise God reveals something of our own perversity. We all desire to control our circumstances, and faith is a surrendering of that control. So we naturally tend to rebel against faith. But God graciously counteracts this tendency by nurturing us. Like a good parent, he consistently demonstrates his love. And we, like kids, must trust him on this basis.
